A truck is fundamentally lighter in the rear compared to an SUV based on the same platform. Everything from driving around town to driving over a pass the loss of traction compared to the SUV is still going to be the same. Theres a reason people put sandbags in the back, you ever had your rear wheels in a truck lockup while the fronts continue to roll while on slippery road surfaces? Yes I have had trucks, had. The best trucks for me were the smaller trucks(ala ranger or hardbody) which also share the platform with an SUV. I ended up putting a shell on the back of the truck and using it like an SUV, like how I use my Jeep.
Lets compare a small truck like an Isuzu pickup, and an Isuzu rodeo, both of which I have had. Pickup, seats 2, 3 if you really like the person in the middle.
Rodeo, seats 4, 5 if you really like the person in the middle. Gas mileages are very similar.
Both have 4wd.
Truck is less useful for hauling people and the like, the tradeoff is that the SUV is not as good for hauling cargo and the like. Now if I really needed to haul a bunch of shit then I would just have a fullsize truck. But even a small truck compared to the SUV is harder to drive and more annoying to drive around town.
